 24/7 Youth Film Festival

What is 24/7?

The 24/7 Youth Film Festival a unique festival consisting of free film workshops and a 24 hour film competition – exclusively for young people!

The festival challenges you to express and explore your culture through the art of film!

The climax of the festival is the film competition where young people 12-24 yrs of age have 24 hours to make a 7 minute film and include a list of items, concepts and locations in their film that are only revealed at the beginning of the 24 hour period.

In 2009 there will be two screenings of all of the entered films at Greater Union Mosman and Collaroy Cinemas.  The Final will take place at the Cremorne Orpheum where the 10 finalist films are viewed and prizes awarded by industry professional judges.

The festival is proudly presented by the SHOROC Councils Mosman, Manly, Warringah and Pittwater.

The History…

In 2003 a young member of Manly Youth Council had an idea for a local film festival. He was a young film maker who was concerned by the lack of local film competitions/activities in the local area for young people.

It turned out he was the voice of an untapped group of young people on the Northern Beaches who were also keen to push the boundaries of film making and be involved in such a high-energy, exciting festival.

The first 24/7 Youth Film Festival was run in 2003 with 10 teams entering and 36 participants. It was a huge success, but was destined to grow.

In 2007, 200 young people participated in 32 teams…the sky is the limit for this festival!

In 2008 there were 33 entries and 199 young people participated in the film teams. 130 young people attended the development workshops and we attracted 850 people at the two screenings.
